Unexplained Infertility Isn’t Random: Here’s What You’re Missing

The Biggest Mistakes Women Make With Unexplained Infertility (And What to Do Instead)

If you’ve been trying to get pregnant and everything “looks normal”… yet it’s still not happening, this is for you. I also breakdown this in an episode on the Her Fertility Podcast: CLICK HERE TO LISTEN

Because unexplained infertility is one of the most frustrating places to be.

No clear answers.
No obvious next step.
And a whole lot of internal questioning.

I know this experience personally. And after supporting countless women on their fertility journeys, I’ve seen the same patterns come up again and again.

Let’s talk about the biggest mistakes women make with unexplained infertility and how to move forward in a way that actually supports your body.

First, What Is Unexplained Infertility?

Medically, infertility is defined as:

  • 12 months of trying (under 35)
  • 6 months of trying (35+)

Unexplained infertility simply means:
All tests are “normal”… but pregnancy isn’t happening.

And while that may sound like “nothing is wrong,” the truth is:

If you’re not getting pregnant, something is out of alignment.

It just hasn’t been identified yet within the scope of traditional testing.

Mistake #1: Waiting Too Long to Look Beyond Basic Testing

One of the biggest mistakes I see is staying in a holding pattern.

Waiting.
Trying.
Hoping it just “clicks.”

But unexplained infertility doesn’t mean there’s no cause, it means the cause hasn’t been found yet.

This is where a more complete approach matters.

Not replacing medical care, but expanding it.

Because you don’t have to choose between:

  • Clinical support
    or
  • Holistic healing

You get to use both.

Mistake #2: Treating Fertility Like It Exists in Isolation

Your fertility is not separate from the rest of your body.

It is influenced by:

  • Your hormones
  • Your nervous system
  • Your energy levels
  • Your lifestyle
  • Your past experiences

Think of your hormones like a symphony.

If one instrument is off—even slightly—the entire sound changes.

And many women with unexplained infertility are dealing with subtle imbalances that aren’t flagged as “abnormal”… but still impact fertility.

Mistake #3: Trying Everything Without Discernment

When you want to get pregnant, it’s natural to think:

“I’ll try anything.”

But this often leads to:

  • Overwhelm
  • Wasted time and money
  • Doing things that don’t actually support your body

I’ve been there.

At one point, I tried fasting, and lost my cycle for over 100 days.

That wasn’t supportive. That was my body saying:
“This is not what I need.”

More isn’t better.

Aligned is better.

Mistake #4: Ignoring Your Inner Guidance

This might be the most important one.

Because in a world full of advice, protocols, and opinions…
it’s easy to lose connection with your own body.

But your body is always communicating.

Through:

  • Your energy levels
  • Your cycle
  • Your digestion
  • Your sleep
  • Your symptoms

The problem?

Most of us were never taught how to listen.

And unexplained infertility often becomes the moment where that connection becomes essential.

A Better Approach: The HER Framework

This is the framework I use with my clients:

H — Hormones

Use clinical tools to understand your body:

  • Bloodwork
  • Cycle tracking
  • Advanced testing

Data matters.

E — Energy

Your body needs to feel safe to conceive.

This includes:

  • Nervous system regulation
  • Emotional processing
  • Reducing chronic stress patterns

Because your body will not prioritize reproduction if it feels like it’s in survival mode.

R — Research

Use evidence-based support where possible:

  • Nutrition (Mediterranean-style diet)
  • Targeted supplementation
  • Modalities like acupuncture or chiropractic care

Not everything has research—but informed choices matter.

What Unexplained Infertility Can Actually Look Like

Here’s what I’ve seen with real clients:

  • A hidden cyst that wasn’t caught in standard exams
  • Sperm DNA fragmentation (despite a “normal” semen analysis)
  • A chronically dysregulated nervous system preventing the body from feeling safe enough to conceive

None of these were obvious at first.

But all of them were solvable, with the right lens.

The Missing Piece Most Women Overlook

It’s not just what you’re doing.

It’s the state your body is in while you’re doing it.

You can:

  • Eat well
  • Exercise
  • Take supplements

But if your nervous system is constantly in overdrive…

Your body is getting the message:
“Now is not the time.”

Final Thoughts

Unexplained infertility is not the end of the road.

It’s an invitation to:

  • Look deeper
  • Listen more closely
  • Support your body more fully

You don’t need to do everything.

You need to do what’s right for you.
